Do you feel you are living in a terrible storm?
When someone you cherish dies, your grief is a lot like a storm - dark, fearsome, oppressive, chaotic. Sometimes it gets so bad that you can't see where you're going. The storm blots out signposts that might point the way to safety.
But even the worst of storms ends. And finally, there is light – and perhaps even a rainbow. Your direction becomes clear. A sense of relief, calm and even peace returns.
Weather your storm with us. CGS support groups offer a haven from the storm - a place of safety where you can release your fears and pain in the company of others caught in the terrible tempest of grief. Guided by counselors trained in bereavement and accompanied by fellow strugglers, the mysteries of the storm are gradually unveiled, the wind subsides, and at last calm returns and you can once again see the light.
How can you join?
Call 205.870.8667 for information or to schedule an orientation.
Some CGS grief support groups meet for 10-week
sessions each spring, summer and fall. The sessions are curriculum-based
and new members are accepted through the third meeting, so
that the cohesive quality of group support is not disturbed.
We also have spousal loss groups for people of retired age. These run all through the year at locations throughout the Birmingham Metropolitan area.
All groups are facilitated by counselors and volunteers trained in bereavement.
They use educational materials prepared by experts in the field
of grief and loss. Volunteers have experienced
a personal loss, been through a grief support group and completed
volunteer bereavement training. These volunteers offer hope and
encouragement as they "companion" those who are just beginning their grief journeys.
